ROCK SOLIDARIO Y EL PODER DE MUSICA (English below)

 Era el 16 de diciembre 2012 en Sancti Spíritus, esta ciudad se sumaba a Edmonton y Vancouver para realizar una muestra fotográfica del proyecto Solidarity Rock-Rock Solidario y un concierto con las bandas Cancerbero, Gatillo, Resistencia y Arrabio. La expo de fotos quedo inaugurada a las 6:00 p.m. y todo quedaba listo para la realización del concierto en La Feria (Disco Temba), los trabajadores del mismo no tenían conocimiento de la programación del concierto que estuvo asumida por Cultura Provincial y la A.H.S, el publico que vino desde todas las municipios y ciudades vecinas comenzó a llenar el lugar pagando 5 pesos por su entrada, las bandas estaban allí presentes y el operador de audio y dueño del sistema de sonido no aparecía por allí. Cuando ya faltaba poco para las 9:00pm de la noche decidí ir en su búsqueda con la ayuda de un amigo y su auto, al llegar a su casa no se encontraba y en la vuelta al lugar donde debería realizarse el concierto lo encontramos caminando felizmente tomado de la mano con su novia de momento, nos detuvimos y hablamos con el, luego de un sin fin de pretextos monetarios para hacer el concierto le pregunte cuanto seria la cantidad que el cobraría para que el concierto se pudiese realizar me dijo muy tranquilamente que por ser a mi, me cobraría dos mil pesos en efectivo, esto como un gesto e buena voluntad, entonces se puso a hablar que nadie quería trabajar con bandas de rock porque el rock rompe y destruye los equipos de sonido, PA, que los dueños de los equipos de sonido ninguno quiere trabajar con los grupos de rock porque el sonido de rock rompe las bocinas y las planta de amplificación. Fin de la conversación decidí cambiar el concierto de lugar, fuimos de vuelta a la feria conversamos con las bandas que allí estaban y todos estuvieron de acuerdo en hacer el concierto en la Casa del Joven Creador sede de la A.H.S donde el ultimo concierto que se había realizado fue el de Diciembre del 2007 con 7and7is, Arrabio, Limalla. Hable con los de los directivos del lugar para que devolvieran el dinero que habían cobrado en la puerta y nos pusimos en marcha todos hacia la A.H.S eran ya alrededor de las 10:30 p.m. comenzamos a montar todos nuestros equipos, drums, amps, y PA del proyecto SR-RS y en breve todo estuvo listo para que Gatillo tocara, luego le siguieron Resistencia de Santa Clara, seguidos por Cancerbero de Jatibonico y allí termino todo cuando alrededor de la 1:30 de la mañana se formo una pelea que detuvo el concierto quedando la banda Arrabio de Trinidad sin poder tocar. De todo esto tenemos que sacar cuentas claras es un suerte poder contar hoy con los equipos necesarios para poder realizar conciertos en espacios pequeños con nuestros propios medios sin tener que contar con nadie mas, ninguna institución para que nos asegure algún medio, solo el lugar donde poder hacer los conciertos todo esto gracias a Solidarity Rock, todas las bandas, músicos, promotores y amigos que de una forma u otra han estado apoyándonos durante estos 5 años para que hoy podamos estar donde estamos y que gracias a todos estos años de lucha, sacrificios y amistad pudiésemos lograr llevar este concierto a hacerse realidad. Sin la ayuda de cada uno de ustedes esto no hubiese podido ser posible.

SOLIDARITY ROCK AND THE POWER OF MUSIC

On December 16, 2011 Sancti Spiritus, this city joined with Edmonton and Vancouver for a photographic exhibition featuring the work of the Solidarity Rock project and a music show featuring Cancerbero, Gatillo, Resistancia and Arrabio. The photo exhibition started at 6:00 pm and everything was ready for the concert performance in La Feria (Disco Temba).

The workers at La Feria toldus they had no knowledge of the programming or the concert plans that had been taken over by Provincial Culture Institution and the AHS. The public who came from all the neighboring towns and cities began to fill the place paying 5 pesos for entry, the bands were there waiting but the audio technician and owner of the sound system didn’t show up. Shortly before 9:00 pm I decided to go look for the missing sound man with the help of a friend and his car. We went back towards his house and could not find him. We headed back and found him at the concert site, not behind the sound desk, but walking happily, holding hands with his girlfriend. We stopped and talked with him, after endless excuses, he started talking about money and asked how many people had paid and how much he would get to do the show. I told him calmly that if it was up to me, I would pay him 2000 pesos as a good will gesture, to which he replied that no one wanted to work with rock bands because rock bands break and destroy the sound equipment, and PA, and that none of the sound guys or the owners of the sound systems want to work with rock bands because the sound of rock music breaks the speakers and ruins the amps.

At the end of the conversation I decided to change the concert venue. we went back to the show, talked with the bands that were there and all agreed to do the concert at the Casa de Joven Creador, the AHS headquarters. The last show we had there was in December 2007 with 7and7is, Arrabio and Limalla. We spoke with the managers of the Feria site, and they returned the money they had charged at the door and off we went to AHS. It was already 10:30 by the time we began to mount all our equipment, drums, amps, and PA, all of which was provided by the Solidarity Rock - Rock Solidario project. We soon we had everything ready for Gatillo, followed by Santa Clara’s Resistancia and Jatibonico’s Cancerbero. It all ended around 1:30 in the morning when a fight broke out that stopped us in Arrabio, the band based in Trinidad from being able to play.

From this experience, we must draw a clear accounting. We’re lucky today to have the necessary equipment to perform concerts in small spaces on our own without having to rely on anyone else. We depend on ourselves and no other person or institution so that we can achieve this by our own means. We only need to find and book a venue. This is thanks to Solidarity Rock - all the bands, musicians, promoters and friends who in one way or another have been supporting us during these 5 years so that today we can be where we are. Thanks to all these years of struggle, the sacrifices and friendship you’ve provided made sure this concert happened. Without the help of every one of you this would not have been possible.
